The Sky Engine is a new community oratorio by Richard Peat, commissioned by the JAM on the Marsh festival. Written for upper voices of all abilities, an orchestra of leisure-time musicians and/or students performing alongside professional instrumentalists, opera singers, and a narrator.

The libretto, by children's author Timothy Knapman, tells the story of an ambitious inventor who attempts to solve the climate crisis by creating a machine that can draw energy from the sky. Things go horribly wrong and it's left to the scientist's daughter to put things right.

You can watch a film of the first performance below, which was featured on Kermode and Mayo’s Take (1:07:00), and read about The Sky Engine in this BBC Music Magazine article.
